Title I Overview
Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), is a federally-funded financial assistance program for schools based on the number of low-income families. The purpose of these funds is to ensure that all students have a fair opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and meet state academic standards.
Use of Funds
Title I funds can be used to provide:
Educational opportunities outside of school hours
Professional development for staff
Resources, equipment, supplies, and other educational materials
Opportunities for parental involvement
Responsibilities
A partnership must be shared between schools, parents, and students to help all students meet challenging state academic standards.
Ottawa Township High School will support students and their parents by providing:
A safe learning environment of highly qualified personnel
Two-way communication avenues, such as phone, e-mail, and scheduled meetings
Two nights of parent-teacher conferences annually in October
Online access to grades and progress reports via Skyward
Decision-making opportunities for parents through the School Improvement Team and Parent-Student Handbook committees
Supplemental learning opportunities, such as core subject tutoring, Saturday Success School, teacher availability before and after school, intervention and credit recovery programs
Parents will support their child(ren) and Ottawa Township High School by:
Ensuring that their child(ren) adhere to the discipline and dress code
Communicating with appropriate school personnel regarding their child(ren)’s academics through phone, e-mail, and/or scheduled meetings
Making every effort to attend parent-teacher conferences in October
Monitoring their child(ren)’s grades and accessing progress reports online via Skyward
Making every effort to be involved with school activities through volunteer opportunities
Ensuring that their children attend to their academic responsibilities (i.e. attendance, work completion, future plans, etc.)
Students will support their own education by:
Abiding by school rules and demonstrating the Six Pillars of Character
Communicating often with their parents and teachers about their academic progress
Monitoring their grades regularly in class and online via Skyward
Attending to their academic responsibilities (i.e. attendance, work completion, studying, etc.)
